The recently released ‘2018: Everyone Is A Hero’ has served as a light of hope for the industry for many weeks after numerous Malayalam cinema associations complained about the low box office performance of films. The movie continues to bring large crowds to theatres every day, even on weekdays, giving the industry a much-needed break.
‘2018’s’ producers have officially revealed that the movie has gathered over Rs 100 crore in global box office profits in only 10 days since its debut, while pictures of ‘houseful’ boards decorating theatres playing the movie are already making the rounds on social media platforms. It is now the first Malayalam film to reach the exclusive Rs 100 crore club, thanks to this extraordinary accomplishment.
One of the firms that worked to co-produce the movie, Kavya Film Company, posted on social media, saying, “We are really happy and grateful to all of our audience for watching and supporting us in reaching this milestone. In addition to the box office results, it’s your warmth and affection that keep us going. “Thank you all,” the poster for the movie said, along with the caption “Fastest 100 crore film ever in Malayalam.”
Jude Anthany Joseph, the director of the movie, chose to be precise by using emojis to convey his feelings on a similar poster.
According to reports, the 2019 political action thriller ‘Lucifer,’ directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, previously had the honour of reaching this milestone. It should be noted that the only other Malayalam movie to have an excellent theatrical run this year was Romancham (directed by Jithu Madhavan).
The Malayalam films in the Rs 100 crore club include ‘Lucifer,’ ‘Pulimurugan’ (2016, Director. Vysakh), ‘Bheeshma Parvam’ (2022, Amal Neerad), ‘Kurup’ (2021, Director Srinath Rajendran),’Madhura Raja’ (2019, Director Vysakh), ‘Mamangam’ (2019, Director M. Padmakumar), and ‘Kayamkulam Kochunni’ (2018, Director Rosshan Andrews).
