Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Miss World 1994, turns 49 today

Actress Aishwarya Rai was quite well-known even before she started acting in movies. She made her acting debut in 1997 after dominating the world of beauty pageants, and she is still one of India’s most popular celebrities today. Many celebrities have wished her a happy birthday as she turns 49 today, and her followers have created lovely posts wishing her a wonderful day full of happiness and success.

Aishwarya Rai began modelling while still a college student. Before entering beauty pageants, she made appearances in a number of advertisements and TV ads. She competed against Sushmita Sen in the Femina Miss India pageant in 1994. Sushmita won the prize, and Aishwarya finished as the first runner-up. She later represented India at Miss World in 1994 and won the jewelled crown seen in this vintage photo. She began receiving film offers after winning Miss World in 1994. She made her acting debut in the 1997 Tamil film Iruvar, directed by Mani Ratnam. She also played the lead role in Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya, her debut Bollywood movie, which was also released that year. Here’s another vintage photo of Aishwarya and Koi… Rajat Bedi stars in Mil Gaya.

She once recalled her tough times when she had to commute to college in Mumbai by bus and rail. As a college student, I have taken the bus, the train, and everything else. She also said that she knows exactly how it gets at Dadar station, how it is on buses, and how the wet season is just not at all the easiest on public transport.

After winning the 1994 Miss World pageant, Aishwarya adopted the moniker “blue-eyed girl” as her own. In this ancient picture, her eyes say a lot. She once remarked to Wild Films India how people were drawn to her because of the colour of her hair and eyes. When I was younger, my blue eyes and hair colour attracted people’s attention, the woman said. People used to think I was cute, but winning Miss World made me feel like I was floating through the air.
