B. Rajendraprasad, also known as Beeyar Prasad, a Malayalam lyricist and poet, passed away. He had written music for more than 60 films. He rose to prominence as a lyricist with the 2003 film ‘Kilichundan Mambazham,’ starring Mohanlal. He wrote all the songs for the Mohanlal film, from ‘Onnaam Kili’ to ‘Kasavinte Thattamittu,’ and Vidyasagar composed them.
Many popular films, including Priyadarshan’s ‘Vettam,’ followed ‘Kilichundan Mambazham.’ His lyrics for the songs ‘Keranirakalaadum’ from ‘Jalolsavam’ and ‘Mazhathullikal Pozhinjeedumee’ from ‘Vettam’ were well received by music lovers and audiences.
Beeyar Prasad wrote the screenplay for the 1993 movie, Johny, which won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Children’s Film. He also played the character ‘Narayanan’ in the 2001 film Theerthadanam, alongside Jayaram and Suhasini Maniratnam.
Prasad died of stroke complications yesterday, in Changanassery, Kottayam District. He was 62. Beeyar Prasad was reportedly in treatment after suffering a brain haemorrhage in November of last year. He also had a kidney transplant in 2019.
