Richard Carpenter of The Carpenters fame has created a special video for Oscar-winning composer MM Keeravaani and lyricist Chandrabose. To congratulate Keeravaani and Chandrabose on winning the Best Original Song Oscar for “Naatu Naatu,” Richard sang an altered version of The Carpenters’ song “On Top of the World” in the video.
Richard, along with his family members, sang “On Top of the World” lyrics: “We are on top of the world for your winning creation, and we hope you know how proud of you we are. You are the best there is around, and we hope you know it now…”Richard Carpenter posted the video to Instagram along with the message, “Heartfelt congratulations to @mmkeeravani official and @chandraboselyricist for winning Best Original Song. To you and your family, a little something from our family.
I grew up listening to The Carpenters, and here I am with the Oscars, MM Keeravaani stated in his acceptance speech on the Oscar floor. Then he started singing a parody of “On Top of the World” by The Carpenters, saying, “There was only one wish on my mind, so was Rajamouli’s and my family’s, RRR needs to win, the pride of every Indian, and must put me on top of the globe.”
Wednesday night, Keeravaani used Twitter to express her gratitude to everyone for their well wishes and encouragement. He stated in the tweet, “Your support made us cross the Atlantic waters, keep the fire alive within, and create history,” addressing it to his Jananee (motherland). RRR is really important to me. Go back home, accept your love, and rejoice for the time being.
Singers Kaala Bhairava and Rahul Sipligunj also sang “Naatu Naatu” during the Oscar ceremony. The audience applauded the performance by standing.
