Subi Suresh, a film actor and television anchor known for her quick wit and various humorous characters in Malayalam film and television serials, died today at the age of 41.
According to sources, she was admitted to Rajagiri Hospital in Aluva on January 28 for acute liver failure and died this morning, worsening the situation.
She began her career as a mimicry artist in the Cochin Kalabhavan troupe, gradually carving out a niche for herself in the male-dominated comedy shows on stage and on television. Within a short period of time, she had established herself as an unavoidable presence in live stage shows organized by various television channels, and she had won the hearts of audiences through her hilarious avatars in popular TV series such as Cinemala. She also established herself as a successful TV host on a variety of channels.
Subi Suresh debuted in the film industry in 2006 with Kanakasimhasanam, and she has since played small but memorable roles in over 20 films, including Elsamma Enna Aankutty and Happy Husbands.
People from various walks of life expressed shock over the unexpected demise of the actor-anchor. Condoling her death, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that she won a place in the hearts of Malayalis through reality shows and comedy programs. “A promising artist who had a great future ahead has been lost through the demise of Subi Suresh,” he said in his message.
