Nivin Pauly starrer ‘Thuramukham’ to hit theaters on March 10

Thuramukham’s release date has finally been set after being postponed multiple times over the last three years due to various factors such as the pandemic and financial issues. Rajeev Ravi’s ‘Thuramukham’ starring Nivin Pauly, is finally hitting the screens on March 10.

The film is based on the chappa system, which was prevalent in the Cochin port during the 1940s and 1950s, and the workers’ revolution that led to its abolition. Nivin plays the lead role of Mattancherry Moidu in the film, whereas Sudev Nair plays the main antagonist. The film also stars Nivin, Indrajith Sukumaran, Joju George, Poornima Indrajith, Darshana Rajendran, Nimisha Sajayan, Binu Pappu, and Arjun Ashokan.

The period drama, also directed by Rajeev of Kammatipaadam, will include scenes from the early 1900s and span decades, showcasing the actors in various outfits. Nivin Pauly appears in various get-ups in the film, and the Kochi port of the twenties and forties has been recreated beautifully.

The story begins in the 1920s, when the new Kochi port was being built. Many job seekers from different parts of the country gather in front of the offices of labor contractors. A time when laborers fought each other for the metal tokens thrown by contractors and builders, for jobs to get an earlier day.

Later in the story, moving to the 1940s and 1950s, the overgrown Kochi port is the breeding ground of a mafia consisting of contractors, capitalists, and union leaders who side with them, a time when workers have to fight for their right to work and live with dignity. Port is the story of the survival of a family and a nation going through this tumultuous period. It is the story of two generations torn between good and evil, tragedy and heroic resistance, hope and despair.
