Oscars 2023: RRR makes history by winning ‘Best Original Song’ for “Naatu Naatu”

Indians had been anticipating RRR’s “Naatu Naatu,” the musical sequence that took home the award for best original song at the 95th Academy Awards. And bringing Oscar home is a historic moment for India.

 

RRR’s Naatu Naatu has won an Oscar for Best Original Song in 2023. Applause (Tell It Like a Woman), Hold My Hand (Top Gun Maverick), Lift Me Up (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever), and This is a Life were the other nominees in the category (Everything, Everywhere, All at Once).


M. M. Keeravani composed Naatu Naatu, which was sung by Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava. RRR, directed by SS Rajamouli, has become a global phenomenon.RRR, starring Ram Charan and Jr. NTR, is clearly a global blockbuster. Lauren Gottlieb, the former Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa runner-up,performed Naatu Naatu live at the Oscars in 2023. The award ceremony will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 12 (March 13 in India). Kaala Bhairava and Rahul Sipligunj, as well as choreographer Prem Rakshith, were also in attendance at the big awards night and participated in the epic performance.


To recall, Resul Pookutty and A. R. Rahman won Academy Awards for Best Sound Mixing and Best Original Score for their work on the Jai Ho song from the 2008 film Slumdog Millionaire. India has once again made history!

Ram Charan discussed the sensational Naatu Naatu during an interview with Talk Easy with Sam Fragoso. “It is more than just a showman. Every sequence in Rajamouli’s films is considered. The song was nominated for an Oscar because of the drama and emotions that it evokes. The camaraderie, the brotherhood on display, and the yin and yang that the two leading men (Charan and Jr. NTR) represent all contributed to the song’s uniqueness,” “Ram Charan stated.
Every party and award show in India and around the world has tried and performed the hook step. The victory of Naatu Naatu demonstrates that language is not a barrier to enjoying music across borders. RRR’s Naatu Naatu has become the first Indian song to win an Oscar in 13 years.
