Ponniyin Selvan 2 Confirmed to be in Theatres by April 2023

Ponniyin Selvan 2’s release date was announced in a video uploaded by the film’s creators. In the Mani Ratnam-directed sequel, a stellar cast will return to their roles.

Ponniyin Selvan I, popularly referred as PS 1, was the biggest box office hit of 2022. It was directed by Mani Ratnam. The first part, which debuted on September 30, brought in a total of $400 million globally. The script, the actors’ performances, and the photography of the movie all received high praise.  Through Mani Ratnam’s eyes everything in the film seems larger than life.

The movie’s producers, Lyca Productions, shared a video on Twitter to reveal Ponniyin Selvan 2’s release date. On April 28, 2023, PS 2 will open in theatres worldwide. The Cholas will return and pledge to once more smash box office records. As they posted the video to Twitter, the creators urged viewers to “get those swords in the air as we anticipate April 28th, 2023!”

The same impressive cast from PS 1 will be present in PS 2. The cast won’t change because the sequel picks up just where the previous one left off. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Chiyaan Vikram, Karthi, Trisha Krishnan, and Jayam Ravi are among the prominent actors in PS 2’s ensemble cast. In addition to these, the action drama from this era also stars Sarathkumar, Prabhu, Lal, Kishore, Ashwin Kakumanu, and Aishwarya Lekshmi in supporting parts.

Karthi plays Vallavaraiyan Vanthiyathevan, the orphaned prince of the Vana clan, in the film. Chiyaan Vikram plays Aditya Karikalan, the crown prince, while Jayam Ravi plays Arumozhi Varma, also known as Ponniyin Selvan, the future emperor. Princess Kundavai Devi is played by Trisha Krishnan, and Nandini and Oomai Rani, the antagonist and the female lead, respectively, are played by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Fans were left wondering what would happen in the second part after Ponniyin Selvan returned to the Kingdom after the first part’s interesting conclusion. Who is the female figure who repeatedly pulls Arulmozhi Varman out of the river? Is there any relationship? Will Karthi aka Vanthiyathevan and Jayam Ravi as Arulmozhi Varman make it to the kingdom, or will there be a tragedy? In the second section, all queries will be address.

The first segment ended abruptly since we also got a glimpse of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s Oomai Rani. The second half is anticipated to focus more on her involvement. Arulmozhi Varman and his ascent to the position of Rajaraja Chola I, the greatest king of the Chola kingdom, will continue to be the main subject of the movie. It’s anticipated that the second portion will emphasize Vikram’s flashback tale as Aditya Karikalan. The follow-up will also depict the relationship between Aishwarya Rai’s Oomai Rani and  Ponniyin Selvan. Well, a lot will happen in Ponniyin Selvan’s second instalment, and it promises to keep viewers glued to the screen.

Ponniyin Selvan’s first and second parts were shot concurrently. It was stated that Mani Ratnam completed PS 1 and PS 2 filming in about 150 days. The audience was astounded as also SS Rajamouli completes his films fast and flawlessly. Although it was previously stated that filming for the sequel was also finished, recent sources indicate that the director chose to reshoot a few important parts. The Ponniyin Selvan 2 will reportedly shoot a few new scenes, and the shooting schedule is expected to last between 7 and 10 days.

The two sections of the movie, which was filmed on an enormous budget, are based on the 1995 novel by Kalki Krishnamurthy. The first and second sections reportedly cost Rs 150 crores to produce because they were shot concurrently. It should be mentioned that a sizable fee was apparently paid for the satellite and OTT rights of PS 1. Ponniyin Selvan’s streaming rights were acquired by Amazon Prime Video.
