Sarpatta Parambarai, a sports drama that will be released in 2021, has become one of the most critically acclaimed films produced by the Tamil film industry in recent years. The film, which received national acclaim, was directed by Pa Ranjith and had a direct OTT release on the renowned streaming platform Amazon Prime Video. Arya played the lead in Sarpatta Parambarai, a film set in the 1970s in the North Madras region that revolved around the journeys of two boxing families.
The celebrated filmmaker, best known for his groundbreaking work in the Tamil film industry, announced on his official social media handles that a sequel to his acclaimed film ‘Sarpatta Parambarai’ is in the works. Pa Ranjith shared the project’s announcement poster, titled Sarpatta 2, along with a short note that reads: “Kabilan is back. #Sarpatta2 is coming soon for honor and glory.” Leading man Arya, who played the central character Kabilan Munirathnam, is seen standing with his boxing gown on in the announcement poster.
According to reports, all of the main characters from the Pa Ranjith-directed film will return in the sequel, along with Arya. However, it is unknown whether Sarpatta 2 will have a grand theatrical release, as opposed to the first installment of the franchise, which had a direct OTT release.
The film is about the two renowned boxing clans of North Madras, Sarpatta Parambarai and Idiyappa Parambarai, and their long-standing rivalry. Arya portrayed boxer Kabilan, and Pasupathy portrayed his guru, Rangan Vathiyar. Shabeer Kallarackal portrayed Kabilan’s arch-rival, Dancing Rose.
Dushara Vijayan, John Vijay, Kalaiyarasan, John Kokken, Vettai Muthukumar, Vettai Muthulumar, Kaali Venkat, Kishore, Sanchana Natarajaran, Priyadarshini Rajkumar, and others starred in the sports drama. Murali G was in charge of the project’s cinematography. The songs and original score were written by Santhosh Narayanan. Sarpatta Parambarai is a collaboration between Pa Ranjith’s Neelam Productions and K9 Studios.
