Satheesh Babu Payyanur, a novelist and writer in the Malayalam language, was discovered dead at his home on Thursday. The 59-year-old writer who received the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award was residing in a flat in Thiruvananthapuram with his wife, Girija. On Wednesday, his wife visited her parents’ home. She called the police and his family, who then had to force the door open after numerous fruitless attempts to reach him on the phone.
Although the cause of his death is still unknown, no abnormalities have been discovered during the initial inquiry. According to Vanchiyoor police, the cause of death may only be determined following a post-mortem examination inquiry.The post-mortem examination will be done on Friday, and the body is currently kept at the Government Medical College Hospital mortuary in Thiruvananthapuram.
In 2012, Satheesh Babu’s collection of short stories, Peramaram, earned him the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award. His works like Mannu, Daivappura, Manja Sooryante Naalukal, and Kudamanikal Kilungiya Raavil are well known. In addition to writing the screenplay for various documentaries, he also wrote Nakshatrakoodaram, a film from 1992.
