In Nagesh Kukunoor’s Iqbal, Shreyas Talpade spoke about working with Naseeruddin Shah (2005). Before they began production for the Academy Award-winning movie, the actor, who is well-known for his work in Hindi and Marathi cinema, remembers being informed about the legendary actor’s “temperament.” The 2005 film also featured Shweta Basu Prasad.
Naseeruddin Shah and Shreyas Talpade collaborated on the 2005 film ‘Iqbal.’ The actor admitted that he was anxious before the start of the Nagesh Kukunoor filming and that the director had warned him about Naseeruddin’s “temperament” before their shoot. After their first day on set, the seasoned actor complimented Shreyas, who has acted in both Hindi and Marathi movies.
In a recent interview, Shreyas Talpade remembered the “wonderful time” he spent filming Iqbal with Naseeruddin, with whom he shared breakfast, played scramble, and even went out to dinner. The relationship between the two did not initially begin this way, either, since Nagesh had warned Shreyas that Naseeruddin Shah was “a bit temperamental” and prone to becoming furious.
“But look, he’s a bit temperamental, thoda sa agar gussa karein (if he becomes furious), and you feel that you are not able to speak with him, then you don’t worry; just come and tell me, and I will handle it,” Shreyas said. Mein thoda anxious thaa (I was a little nervous). We spent the day shooting with Naseer Ji. Naseer ji called me in the evening and asked, “You’ve done theater, right? Your acting exhibits it. You can come and let me know if Nagesh gets furious or disturbed after I tell you about his temperament. I’ll deal with it.” Until the shooting for Iqbal was over, I held back from telling any of them about this.
Iqbal garnered high marks from reviewers and was well accepted by crowds. The National Film Award for best supporting actor went to Naseeruddin Shah for it in 2007. The film was also recognized with a National Picture Award for finest film addressing other societal issues. Shreyas also received a prize: the Zee Cine Award for Male Best Actor. Shreyas discussed Iqbal and said, “Life changed completely for me… I owe all I am today to this movie. “It was helpful in putting me in my current position.”
