The Bengaluru International Film Festival will screen Don Palathara’s “Family”

“Family”, directed by renowned filmmaker Don Palathara, will be screened at the upcoming Bengaluru International Film Festival. The film had its world premiere at the Rotterdam International Film Festival.

The family drama is hoping to impress viewers back home after receiving rave reviews. The story is said to revolve around a Catholic man named Sony, who appears to be completely innocent on the surface. But, like many others, he has skeletons in his closet.

“Sony, a Catholic man in his late twenties from rural central Kerala, comes across as a do-gooder and a well-wisher at first glance,” according to the official synopsis. However, a different character remains behind his public persona. Even as some of his family members become aware of his actions, they are silenced by a system that actively and mindfully protects men, their delinquencies, and secrets. As a result, the family becomes a sturdy closet in which the skeletons of the past are kept unknown and unseen by the world outside. The film attempts to understand how the family system operates like a mafia when it comes to internal crimes.”

“This film diverges from conventional character studies by telling the tale of man and his relationship with society,” said Don Palathara in a statement. It also tries to untangle the intertwining of two institutions: family and religion. The investigated social system differs from the individualist, modern-day world as we know it. Family and its tenacity take precedence here. For the most part, I used a static, objective camera, and I also used elliptical storytelling throughout.”

‘Family’ stars Vinay Forrt, Divya Prabha, Nilja K. Baby, and K. K. Indira, among others, in pivotal roles.
