The Kerala Story, which was mired in controversy, grossed more than Rs. 8 crores at the domestic box office. Sudipto Sen wrote and directed the film, which was released in theatres on Friday. The film features Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani, and Sonia Balani as the key characters.
The Kerala Story, according to the makers, uncovers the events that led to about 32,000 women going missing in Kerala before being converted and deployed in terror missions across India and the world.
The film is produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, who serves as the producer, creative director, and co-writer of this film under the banner of Sunshine Pictures Private Limited.
The film’s trailer sparked controversy because it claimed that 32,000 girls from the state went missing and ultimately joined the terrorist organisation ISIS. The Kerala Story became a matter of concern due to the overstated numbers in the film’s trailer. The Kerala High Court remarked that the makers should include a disclaimer with the video that expressly states that the film is a fictionalised and dramatised interpretation of events and does not claim accuracy or factuality of historical events.
Taran Adarsh, a film analyst, tweeted on Saturday, “#TheKeralaStory knocks the ball out of the stadium… It takes a SMASHING START… Evening and late-night shows are well-attended… The Day 1 figures are a MUST-SEE for the whole industry… AWESOME weekend is guaranteed… Fri ₹ 8.03 cr. #Indianbusiness. #Boxoffice.”
