‘Gandhadagudi: Journey of a True Hero,’ a docu-feature written and directed by wildlife photographer-filmmaker Amoghavarsha and starring ‘Karnataka Ratna,’ the late actor Puneeth Rajkumar, is set to be released on OTT platform Amazon Prime on March 17.
The film, which gives an interesting insight into Puneeth’s extraordinary lineage through his father, the legendary actor Dr. Rajkumar, will be released on the actor’s birth anniversary after winning the hearts of audiences in theaters.
According to Ashwini Puneeth Rajkumar, “Appu had always wanted to do something about environmental conservation, so this was his dream project. Appu’s fans and audiences in Karnataka responded overwhelmingly positively to the film, and we felt it was a natural progression for the rest of the world to witness this beautiful journey. We are grateful to everyone who has helped us along the way with this film.”
The 90-minute documentary, directed by Amoghavarsha, stars Puneeth Rajkumar and Amoghavarsha as they set out to discover Karnataka’s vast biodiversity, which is little known to outsiders. Together, they scoured Karnataka for hidden gems while marveling at nature’s splendor.
Amoghavarsha, the director, added, “It was heartening to see ‘Gandhadagudi’ get so much love from the audience. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have had this wonderful experience working with Puneeth, who was enthusiastic about everything in life. Rajkumar’s persona in the film is very raw and real, as he has always felt strongly about nature. His love for his native state, Karnataka, is well reflected in the film, and I am glad that the audience can see him talk about things that he cherished and cared about.”
