Veteran Odia actress Jharana Das passed away at the age of 77

Veteran Odia performer Jharana Das passed away on Friday at her Cuttack home, according to family sources. Films like Shree Jagannath, Nari, Adinamegha, Hisabnikas, Pujafula, Amadabata, Abhinetri, Malajanha, and Heera Nella were among her best-known works. Jharana, who received the renowned Jaydev Puraskar award from the state government for her lifelong contributions to the Odia cinema industry, was afflicted with an age-related condition. According to family sources, she passed away on Thursday night.

Jharana had previously worked for All India Radio (AIR), Cuttack, as a young announcer and artist. She had previously worked for Doordarshan in Cuttack as an assistant station director. Many people praised her directing in the biographical film on the former chief minister of Odisha, Harekrushna Mahtab.

Jharana was a classically trained dancer as well. Moreover, in 2016, she received the Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Award for lifetime achievement.
