Virat Kohli is poised to surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s two ODI world records

In the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, former Indian captain Virat Kohli has the opportunity to surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s previous mark. Tuesday’s series opener will be played at Barsapara Cricket Stadium between India, led by Virat Kohli, and Sri Lanka.

Virat Kohli, a former captain of India, will play again in the forthcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka. In the first of a three-match series, Team India, managed by Virat Kohli, will take on Dasun Shanaka-led Sri Lanka at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. During India’s tour of Bangladesh, Kohli ended a 1214-day ODI century drought and is now aiming to break another incredible mark set by batting superstar Sachin Tendulkar in the 50-over format.

The batsman Tendulkar has 20 ODI home hundreds, which is the highest in the sport. Former Indian captain Kohli currently has 19 to his name. Kohli can match Tendulkar’s incredible feat if he manages to score triple digits in the first ODI. He will set a new world record if he succeeds in scoring one more goal. In 164 games, Sachin Tendulkar scored 20 ODI centuries at home. In 101 ODIs, Kohli has amassed 19 tonnes at home. Run-machine Kohli has scored 12,471 runs in ODI cricket. To get into the top 5 ODI run scorers of all time, he must score 180 more runs. In the elite group, Kohli trails just Mahela Jayawardene, Ricky Ponting, Sanath Jayasuriya, Kumar Sangakkara, and Tendulkar.

It’s interesting to note that in ODI cricket, Kohli and Tendulkar each have eight hundreds versus Sri Lanka. In the 50-over format, only Tendulkar and Kohli have scored more tonnes against Sri Lanka. Tendulkar, a legendary batsman, scored 3,113 runs against Sri Lanka in 84 ODIs. In 47 ODI games so far, Kohli has 2,220 runs against the 1996 World Cup champions. Former Indian captain Kohli has scored 19 times for 50 or more versus Sri Lanka.

In addition, Kohli will tie Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most ODI hundreds against one team if he reaches 100 in the series. With nine hundreds against the West Indies and Australia, respectively, Kohli and Tendulkar are tied for first place.
